Assalamualaikum and happy evening to everybody! ‘If you happy and you know it clap your hand!’ This was the song that I sang this evening on my way to second session of Computer in Education class as I was being so sleepy. So, this is kind of lift-up-mood song to evening kind of class. Heee. Back to our business, we are being introduced to the Learning Management System (LMS), Content Management System (CMS) and Course Management System (CMS 1).
a) What is LMS? I define LMS as a LARGE and wide software system that allows instructors to create online courses and training courses. Along with creating, managing and distributing e-courses to the students, instructors can track the progress of their students by access in details of the reports and statistic that Lms provide. Another important aspect of LMS, it provides the students online classroom where they can interact and learn in a collaborative environment. It allows instructors to upload all of the courses and training materials such as videos, presentations, pdf and even live-web content such as blog to a central location in an online classroom. LMS facilitates anywhere and anytime learning as students can easily access the materials by loging on in the online classroom with device by internet access. The closest example is i-folio. In i-folio, the administer of the course is the lecturer. It has a number of features that help instructor manage their students better. For example, they can organise students into groups or classes to centralise reporting and course assignments or even quizzes. With the best reports of statistics, tracking the progress of large group and individual learner is also easy. In conjunction with that, instructors can save valuable time spending grade assessment and calculating the results as LMS automates grading of hundreds of test papers and enable students to instantly see their results. Interestingly, 2 advantages that I discover from LMS are; it save instructors a lot of time grading the students’ paper and also cut the number of papers used.

Next, What is CMS ? CMS which stands for Content Management System is an application (more likely web-based), that provides capabilities for multiple users with different permission levels to manage (all or a section of) content, data or information of a website project, or internet / internet application. CMS in a simple term refer to for formatting and editing content on website. CMS is very helpful with managing versions of a document and centralizing all aspects of something in one place. Everyone can relate to a time when multiple users made changes to a document only to find out after publication that at least one version of changes didn't make it through to the final version. In the context of internet, CMS is a piece of software that allows you to manage and create content. Examples that indicate CMS are dropbox, google drive, website, blogs, wordpress and many others. As simple as that. Let me point out one of the example which is Dropbox. In dropbox, one can manage the content of the dropbox in share folders.
Lastly, what is Course Management System or CMS 1? CMS is a bunch of software tools that provides an online environment for course interactions. It enables instructors to create online courses content on website. For me, course management system is a platform where two parties which are the ‘giver’ will provide the learning content online and may be achieved and received by the ‘receiver’. It makes the teaching and learning process easier by providing a framework and set of devices for instructors to convey their syllabus content to students. That's all for today!
